About

St Nicholas’ Churchyard. In the middle is the detached 16th century bell tower. The church is on the left, and behind the trees to the right of the bell tower the white back of Bishop Bonner’s cottages is just visible.

About

We were founded in 1953 as Dereham Antiquarian Society, and adopted the name Dereham Heritage Trust in 2018. For how to join and similar details, see the Membership page.

The Trust is governed by trustees who are elected by the members. The present trustees, with their main areas of interest, are:
Dr Peter Wade-Martins (Chair)
Sue Rockley (Secretary)
Ken Hawkins (Treasurer)
Robena Brown (Archive)
Catherine Hawkins (Volunteer coordinator)
Hilary Williams (Young people & group visits)
Jane Heyburn (Museum displays)

The Trust is run by a committee of the Trustees and others whom they may co-opt from time to time.

Get Involved: Volunteering

Can we tempt you to experience hands-on running of a museum? Or would you like to work with historic artefacts and documents? We are always looking for people to join our group of volunteers, either staffing the museum on a rota-basis, or working in our archive and helping to preserve the rich history of Dereham.
No specialist knowledge is required as full training will be provided, all we need is your enthusiasm!
If you are interested in volunteering, please email volunteering@derehamheritagetrust.org.uk.

An Accredited Museum and Charity

The Museum is accredited under the Arts Council England Museum Accreditation Scheme. This provides ‘nationally agreed standards to ensure all museums are sustainable, focused and trusted, inspiring the confidence of the public and funding and governing bodies.’ We apply the standards and policies that the scheme requires to our whole organisation, not just the Museum. Our Museum Mentor, who provides professional advice, is Megan Dennis, Property Curator for the National Trust at Blickling Estate.

We are also a Charitable Incorporated Organisation, No. 1187140. Our constitution can be found here, and procedures which the Trustees have agreed are here. The minutes of the latest Annual General Meeting are here. Our Privacy Policy can be seen here.

For more information about activities, see the pages listed at the top. For more on Dereham history, see our sister site derehamhistory.co.uk.
